Dead man walking?

Have you ever looked back at your life to see what you have experienced? To see what you have accomplished?
I took that look. In a similar vein to the poem “Footprints in the sand,” I honestly expected to see my tracks, my footprints, wildly exploring the sandy beach of life. I expected to see my tracks leading to accomplishments, fond memories, and a sense of satisfaction.
But instead, I saw only the cold, lifeless, and trackless path of simple existence. A path, like a sidewalk, that leads not where you want to go, but on a safe and predetermined route. Only briefly did I see excursions off the sidewalk and into the sands. Excursions like my service in the Air Force, marriage, a few loyal friends. But always, the tracks never led far. Always, they quickly returned to the mindless predictability and safety of the sidewalk. Quickly back to the routine of simply living day to day with no intention to experience that day, but only to get through it and on to the next. And the next. And the next.
I was angry at what little I had done! I want to know what have I been doing? What is the point? Are we meant to squander 99% of our time on this earth? (I’ll save the religious aspects of life for another post.)
For now, what is my purpose? Do I have a purpose? Do I even need a purpose to experience life to the fullest?
I don’t know. Not yet.
This blog, however, does have a purpose. It will chronicle this journey as I explore what it means to truly LIVE. And what each of us can do to escape the rat race.
Join me. Let’s make this an adventure none of us will forget, or regret.
To LIFE!
