My guest spot on ProBlogger.net

I’m going to appear on ProBlogger.net! Darren Rowse called for guest posters to cover while he is on vacation. About 100 people applied within 24 hours before he cut it off.

Each of those 100 (I was one of them) submitted a posting and my post Building a Blog Plan for Success was one of 13 posts chosen to appear in the following week!
(Note: The guest post is live! See the link above.)

It’s a real honor to appear on a top 20 blog (see #15) like Problogger.

Thank your Darren!

    I just got done reading your post and you covered most of the bases. Many people don’t really think about the long term when they start a blog. I know I didn’t. Taking just a little extra time to plan out what, and how, you are going to blog can make a big difference. I have reevaluated the “purpose” of my blogging and have made some adjustments. I now feel much better about my blogging as a result.

    Congrats on the guest post. Your subscriber count just went up by at least 1!

    Loved your post on ProBlogger. Well, I also hated it. The “have a niche” argument has been eating at me for a while and your post rubbed it in. But in a good CONSTRUCTIVE way.

    @Mark, thank you for visiting and subscribing! When I started blogging, at first I had no real direction. Then I asked myself, why am I doing this? Is it to be randomly writing down my thoughts and hoping for a million readers?

    Thats when dyLosE was born. I had a purpose and a direction. I have a dream of living overseas and taking my income with me online. I hope to document my journey and hopefully inspire others to do what they really want to do, and not live on autopilot.

    @bananas
    Yes, a niche is a way of focusing your blog. I’m glad my comments were at least constructive to you.

    That was a dandy guest post! No surprise that it was selected for ProBlogger, against such stiff competition. I think you hit all the main points that should be considered before launching a blog project, and did so clearly and concisely — finishing off with a very entertaining about-the-author paragraph that was enough to bring you another visitor (and another new subscriber).

    @rjleaman

    I’m glad you enjoyed the humor. I try to inject a little humor where I can. Afterall, if you can’t laugh at life, what’s the point of living?

    @Zaid Rasid

    Thank you. I hope it becomes very successful! I don’t expect it will be as popular as Darren’s Problogger.net, but you never know, right?

    Shawn – Loved your guest post! Looks like you are already seeing some benefits of it! (increased readers) – I started a blog about a year ago and it has been a bit off and on until more recently. I still don’t know if I have a purpose for it, so I will definitely work through your suggestions and look at blogging for the long run! Thanks!

    Great post. Not too long and no tedious jargon about technorati, etc.

    Also the links you included were to other good blogs. It was an education – especially about thinking about the time between blogs and allowing for comment to generate.

    I struggle to hold posts back. Must… click… to… publish!
